When should I schedule a pregnancy consultation?

As soon as you suspect you might be pregnant, scheduling a consultation with Premier OBGYN of Texas is vital. The earlier you begin prenatal care, the better for you and your baby.

Ideally, your first prenatal visit should take place between 8 and 12 weeks after your last period. Premier OBGYN of Texas can perform in-office urine tests and blood work to confirm your pregnancy.

If you’re planning to start a family, it’s also a good idea to schedule an appointment in advance to prepare your body for a healthy pregnancy, also known as preconception planning. Your provider can guide you on stopping birth control, recommend prenatal vitamins, and provide resources to help ensure a healthy, viable pregnancy.

What can I expect during my initial pregnancy evaluation?

During your first pregnancy evaluation, your provider will go over your personal and family medical histories to see if there are potential risks to your pregnancy.

They may perform a pelvic exam to check your reproductive health and estimate your due date. You can also expect blood work and other tests to assess your wellness.

Additionally, your Premier OBGYN of Texas provider may recommend genetic screenings. These can identify conditions like Down syndrome that could affect your baby’s development.

This initial consultation is a great time to ask any questions you may have about your pregnancy care. You can also benefit from educational resources that aim to ensure you’re taking care of yourself and supporting your baby’s growth.

Your provider can help you establish good prenatal care, set up and review a pregnancy checklist for your peace of mind, and discuss your delivery goals, such as whether you would like to try natural childbirth.

How often do I need pregnancy checkups?

Your prenatal visit schedule is tailored to your individual health needs. In general, expect monthly checkups between weeks 4-28 of your pregnancy, with regular monitoring of your health and your baby’s development. From weeks 28-36, appointments will occur every two weeks, and from week 36 until delivery, you’ll schedule weekly visits.

If you’re over 35 or have underlying health concerns that make your pregnancy high-risk, your physician may recommend more frequent visits to monitor you and your baby closely.
